Those looking to play over-the-board chess in the south side should also consider visiting the Thursday Chess Group, our welcoming local partner, who meet for casual chess every Thursday evening in Shawlands.

We are supportive of the wider growth of the chess scene in Glasgow and Scotland. Should you wish to look at joining another Chess Club, Chess Scotland maintain a list of Member Clubs.

Our closest neighbours are: Cathcart and Giffnock, both of which share a venue close to Giffnock town centre, and Phones, Glasgow Montrose, and Strathclyde University Chess Society (which is open to non-students), which are all located in or close to the city centre.

In addition, the Chess in Glasgow Facebook Group highlights events and other opportunities to play chess in the greater Glasgow area; and the Chess Scotland calendar contains information on upcoming national competitions.
